The Mirror Matters
An eye cannot see itself.
It needs a mirror.
The mirror does not create what it reflects.
It simply makes something visible that could not be seen directly.
But a mirror has to be clear.
Otherwise, what you see is not only your own reflection.
The mirror adds its own distortions.
The same can be true in human companionship.
A companion is not meant to place their own answers, fears, beliefs, or unresolved stories into your reflection.
They are there to help create a space in which you can encounter yourself more clearly.
This is why the companion’s own work matters.
Their willingness to look within matters.
Their humility matters.
Their willingness to question themselves matters.
Their ability to notice when they may be imposing their own story matters.
Not because a companion must be perfect.
But because the clearer the mirror, the less of the mirror gets mixed into what you are seeing.
