The Space Matters
Words are only one part of what happens between two people.
You can read the same idea in a book.
Hear it in a conversation.
Understand it intellectually.
And still experience something entirely different when you sit in the presence of someone who is not asking you to defend yourself, become something else, or arrive anywhere in particular.
The quality of the space matters.
The willingness of the person accompanying you matters.
Their own willingness to look within matters.
Their humility matters.
Their ability to remain present without needing to fix, save, persuade, or control matters.
Because what you experience in that space can sometimes teach you something that words alone cannot.
Not by giving you another idea to believe.
But by allowing you to experience, perhaps for the first time, what it is like to meet yourself without so much resistance.
There is another part of companionship that is difficult to capture in language.
We are influenced not only by what someone tells us, but also by the space we repeatedly experience in their presence.
You can understand an idea intellectually and still find yourself unable to live from it.
Then something different can happen when you spend time in a space where questioning is safe, resistance is not judged, and nothing needs to be forced.
You begin to experience another possibility.
Over time, you may find yourself becoming more familiar with that way of being.
This is part of what we mean by entrainment.
Not being told what to become.
Not being persuaded to believe something.
But becoming more familiar with a quality of presence through experience.
